Hāwea Apiata is a writer, researcher, and curator based in Kirikiriroa, Waikato. He approaches his research and curatorial work as forms of storytelling, with his practice being guided and inspired by his commitment to land, language, and lineage. He completed a Master of Arts at UoW and his writing has been published in a range of journals and anthologies bothin Aotearoa and overseas. Much of his work explores the intersection of visual arts and creative writing, often expressed through his practices of visual poetry and zine-making. Te Reo Māori is often platformed in his work with much of his writing being either solely in te reo rangatira or bilingual. He currently works as the Poukōkiri Mātauranga Toi at the University of Waikato in Kirikiriroa Hamilton.
